Turn to God
In these horrendous financial times Americans, despite their fury at their tumbling investments, 401Ks and house prices, still seem to find succour in religion. Unlike the shrinking violet Church of England, Christianity is nothing if not robust here. People are up front about their faith and talk about it endlessly on radio, TV and, yes, even when out there on the campaign trail. It's "in yer face" as we would say back in Blighty.
Churches do not hold back in advertising their services and trying to bring in the Faithful.
This rather amusing board outside one church I came across struck me as typical. I have never encountered anything like it back in the Olde Country.

If you check out the websites of your local churches you will find that they offer a lot more than Sunday worship. Youth Groups, sports, Singles groups dancing groups, and many other hobbies, where they provide the venue and the teachers and all for little financial contribution on your part. I joined a (very liberal, as I am an atheist) church in order to continue my hobby of choral singing, apart from singing in the choir on Sundays, we get to do concerts of large classical works for the ticket buying public. I also made a ton of friends and don't have religion shoved down my throat.
