Military uniforms - the fightback
After the scandalous story of abuse and harassment by locals which led to a ban on RAF Wittering personnel wearing their uniforms off-base in Peterborough, the servicemen and women of Lincolnshire are standing firm. They are having none of this nonsense.
Territorial Army soldier Wayne Sheils, from Lincoln, has discovered that the Americans appreciate their troops far more than we Brits do (just as I said three days ago).
Talking about a recent exercise in Wisconsin he is quoted in the Lincolnshire Echo
We went to Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. That came with a three-day tour in Chicago - people treated us like royalty. Each shop we went into gave discounts. We could get 40 per cent off the very best hiking boots just because we were soldiers! They really value what we stand for. And I think they would have burst with pride if they'd seen my lads in Iraq.
Former Sergeant-Major John Limb, from Lincoln, a 22 year veteran who left in November 2007 said:
People should be allowed to wear the uniform if they want. When I joined you couldn't wear it out and about because of the terrorist threat from the IRA, but now that's gone I think people should be able to. I never got any hostile reactions from people in Lincolnshire when I told them my job, so I think we are lucky in the support we get from the population.
Good to see not everyone has capitulated just yet to so-called Political Correctness!

We're having a bit of a row in San Francisco with the recruiters for the Marine Corps being harassed by a group of peacenicks. But then, a good many of us are rallying to support our boys in uniform. San Francisco is a special case, a holdover of old hippies from the anti-Viet Nam war era.
