Military in uniform to get discounts - hurrah!

marching.jpg The scandalous abuse of serving military by the public has gone on way too long.

Way back in March I wrote about how our soldiers get a really raw deal, particularly when compared with that meted out to their counterparts in the USA.

I wrote here and here about how soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan have been verbally abused and victimised by ordinary members of the public.

And I also wrote here about how Americans from all walks of life donate their used cell phones so that serving military can receive them and make calls back home to their loved ones.

Our lack of respect for our men and women in uniform is nothing short of a national disgrace.

So I was thrilled to read this morning that there’s likely to be a major re-think! A volte face is on the way – and not a moment too soon. A report in the Telegraph says that members of the military are now to be encouraged to wear their uniforms in public – even in nightclubs and bars.

And another of my suggestions – to copy what happens in the USA – is to be adopted. The author of a report, which was commissioned by the Government on improving the image of the military, has recommended discounts for soldiers at Premiership football clubs, amusement parks and holiday companies.

We're getting there!

I stumbled upon your blog via your comments on the Telegraph Dulwich-Mum site.

I am envious. We would love to escape but owing to older age and my spouse's ill health we have to remain on the sinking ship...

Our only consolation is that east Devon does still have some semblance of the old fashioned English way of life - but it is fast disappearing...

I'll be back to read more ...
