David Davis has resigned from Parliament. He is the shadow Home Secretary for Heaven’s sake. Is this a joke or what? Has he lost the plot? What on earth does he think he will achieve by this ridiculous gesture. He may not agree with the outcome of last night’s vote but his party voted against it. What does he imagine he can achieve by this preposterous gesture? What are his constituents thinking? Is this what Her Majesty’s Opposition should be doing – and particularly such a senior member? What a waste of everyone’s time and energy. Are we going to have to put up with this pompous showman on our TV screens for days on end wittering on about how he opposes the 42 day detention of suspected terrorists?

Every time I see the man I cannot put out of my mind his outrageous leadership bid prank in which he posed with women sporting these horrible sexist tee shirts. I cannot take him seriously.
