Working life - a snapshot

1733779-1680602-thumbnail.jpgRecently I received an email which I simply have to share.  A reader sent me this description of his working life. What a sorry state we are in when someone has to suffer like this.  He wrote to me to say that he thinks what my family and I are doing is exactly the right decision - get out of this country.  What he wrote to me speaks for itself.  What an indictment that things have come to this:

I've been working on the buses for almost six years now, and let me tell you, it's completely changed my opinion of this country. I get to see all walks of life. Scum bags, drunks, (including kids), druggies, yobos ... you name it, I've had the misfortune of meeting them all. I've been threatened, punched, spat at and what do my company and the police do? Nothing.  It's like as if it's in my job description to take all of this.

I am so very sorry.

My mother grew up in dire poverty and deprivation just after the Second World War.

Fast forward to 2008, and you find yobs who claim to be "disadvantaged" ... yet they have enough wealth to beat someone up whilst filming it on a mobile phone ... after having got themselves bladdered on cheap lager.

Sounds like a cliche, but it's true ... they don't know that they are born.

Meanwhile, "the people who make the country work" are the people like your bus driver who does his best to provide a public transport service on a moderate wage, whilst having to deal with the dregs of society.

I hope there are some elements of his job that provide job satisfaction (e.g. helping the elderly).
