Dogs as weapons!

1733779-1616817-thumbnail.jpg Of course you read it here first! Last February I wrote here about how I keep spotting on the streets around my home horrible, aggressive, bull terriers. I even took some photos, from a safe distance of course, of some on the street within a mile of my house.  I always give them a very wide berth, as I suspect they would happily take a chunk out of my leg.

So it comes as no surprise to me to read in today’s Evening Standard that the RSPCA reports a “surge” in calls about hoodies training their horrible dogs to fight each other.  Metropolitan Police statistics reveal an increase in the number of dogs seized in London, under the Dangerous Dogs Act, from an average of 38 per annum in the years between 2003 and 2006, to 480 in the year to end April 2008. A phenomenal rise.  And there have been a staggering 4,660 hospital admissions due to dog attacks between 2006 and 2007, with the average stay in hospital being two days!

These aren’t nice family pets – they are weapons! You need a licence to own a gun – why not a licence for one of these? Or better still, simply ban them!

We are one of the richest countries in the world, yet there can be such poverty of aspiration in this country. Hoodies. Fighting dogs.

And expensive mobile phones, used to film assaults.

Meanwhile in the developing world, people are working hard to survive ... and rapidly gaining on us.

I don't blame you for emigrating ... really, I don't.
