A bus driver's tale

1733779-1686074-thumbnail.jpgFollowing my last post, I received this email from someone truly on the frontline of everyday life in Blighty.

What the hell is happening in this country when a decent man has to put up with this on a daily basis in order to earn his wage?

If anyone has any ideas about how to stop this rot then both this long suffering bus driver from Liverpool as well as myself would very much like to hear from you!  This is what he wrote to me:

I've been working on the buses now for six years in Merseyside, before that I did factory work for many years. I considered myself proud to live in Britain & to be English. But since I've worked on the buses, I'm ashamed & disgraced to be associated with Blighty. The abuse, threats, vandalism, harassment, & even the violence I've had to bear every day is atrocious. I mean, is it right anyone going out to earn a wage to support their family, should have to put up with it?

1733779-1686079-thumbnail.jpgA person going to the office wouldn't like a complete stranger to knock on his door, to be welcomed with a volley of abuse, spitting & violence would they? I know what you're thinking, why not change your job? Yes that's easy, but the disease is still out there.

That's why I've decided to consider moving abroad, where people respect everyone & everything.

Spain is a lovely country. I've been there many times, & have been impressed with their way of life.

1733779-1686088-thumbnail.jpg Britain, I'm afraid is in a decline, & like you say, the only way to turn it around is a dictatorship. I can never see that happening.....

These photos show a bus I was driving at peak time on a Friday afternoon, with a bus full of people going home after work.

The culprits? Two teenagers, high on booze. Luckily no one was hurt...

You will no doubt enjoy this quote from Channel 4 dispatches:

http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/dispatches/why+kids+kill/1400747

"Dispatches discovers the main cause of fighting is not bloodlust so much as boredom. Teenagers blame their violence on a lack of youth facilities or being able to reach the ones that do exist as they are outside their gang's territory."

Marvellous.
